These guys have always rocked my world, they’re Icelandic, often have lyrics about blood and are just too cool! Bucket of Blood was my favourite electro track when I first got into electro and these two tracks I’ve found recently have renewed my interest in one of Iceland’s best kept secrets, in Australia anyway.

I’ve been sitting on these tracks for a while, I think mid-December, without putting them up, and it’ll be the same for the post above this, but they’ve really taken my liking so I have to share them. Tom Staar’s a UK producer and other than that I know nothing else. I think “Best Friend’s Girl” is an older track of his and has some great effects on the vocals, and is definitely a party starter with it’s beat and glitchy riff. “Console” is something a little more fresh with a house influenced melody and hits that medium between party and chill. Thank illictronix for posting these and enjoy them anyway!

Confession time. Despite residing in Perth and being a massive fan, I am still yet to see Shazam DJ/perform. It’s my own fault and laziness that I’m yet to witness it and its tracks like this that make me a major fan. Here the track is transformed into some classic pre-Justice French touch stuff, which is what got me into electronic music all those years ago. What drives the track is the bassline, which is so fucking bouncy and cool that it leaves everything destroyed in its wake. I’ve chosen the Top Billin’ dub version though cause I’m not sold on the usual vocals. Very, very awesome track.

A dj from Sheffield who plays dancehall riddims by caleperthquake

In my opinion British DJ Toddla T may be one of the most underrated producers when it comes to plays in Perth clubs. I mean come on people, this guy is one of the few that’s pushing things forward without going the dubstep or disco path. Combining disparate elements of garage, dance-hall and a touch of drum and bass, he still manages to keep things nice and dance floor friendly for the electro crowd. With a sackful of remixes, a fucking good album (Skanky Skanky), production on Roots Manuva’s latest album and a membership to electro supergroup Machines Don’t Care*, to his name, I really fail to see why he isn’t bigger over in our little town. Step your game up Perth and get familiar.

*other members of Machines Don’t Dare include Trevor Loveys, Sinden, Serocee (Toddla’s long time MC), Fake Blood, Detboi, Drop the Lime, Affie Yusef and Herve. True story.

I’ve been prompted to put these tracks up after hearing lots of Proxy on the weekend. Proxy’s coming in a couple of weeks and it’ll be a pretty sweet night if people know his most popular work, because it’s popular for a reason. I’ve gone with an Alex Darkly favourite, 8000 and one of my favourites, his remix of I Love To Move In Here. These are just awesome examples of what can be done with neat samples and a creative mind, and how to do some damn good drops that don’t feel like a commercial house track.

So remember how this blog was supposed to be about music that’s not necessarily from Perth. Well I’m about to break that trend. The track is Tame Impala’s monster of a track, Half Full Glass of Wine, remixed by Perth ex-pats Canyons. They turn the Amps favourite into a chugging disco juggernaut. Starting of with a cool, restrained slow build, the track eventually kicks into gear with those oh-so-familiar guitars over a disco-punk beat. This is a must have.

I first stumbled upon Le Matos during myValerie Collective-’fuck all that noise shit, gimme some cosmic disco electro’- phase. While my tastes have veered back to the dark side of bangin’ electro, I love the shit out of what these guys do. Quiet Earth is named after an awesomely freaky old sci-fi movie of the same name. The ultra dark intro on this track is great. Actually just the whole generally dark nature of the track with it’s constantly driving beats is amazing. The We Have Band remix is their latest effort and further exhibits their distinctive sound.

Okay I’m going to be honest I did get most of the content of this post of another blog but I can’t remember which one, so no hating on me if you find similar content posted at an earlier date! Jinder (formerly know as Little Jinder), is another female voice over some synths, but as this other blog pointed out she’s from Sweden, the place of no musical wrong (except when Robyn was a commercial act, but she ditched that and redeemed herself! Someone’s going to point out heaps of shit Swedish music now, but I can’t think of anything else). She’s singing about vampires (come on this is the year of the teenage vampire love affair, yeah thanks Twilight) and she’s got a damn good voice! So have a listen, and I’m only keen on this one l remix, I don’t like the other official ones and oddly I don’t even like the Sharkslayer one, OMG! Wow also, I just saw she’s on Trouble & Bass, that’s pretty cool.

With DJing there’s a tension between wanting to share your music with everyone and keeping it to yourself cause its fuck-off awesome and you want to be the only one who has/knows about.  That being said, I wanted to keep this one to myself but hell, I’m not going to get a chance to play it out anytime soon so here it is. The track is Armani XXXChange’s contribution to the new Adult Swim compilation ATL RMX. XXXchange is an absolute gem of a producer. Schooled in the DFA dungeon, he went on to produce the futuristic and filthy YoYoYoYoYo album as part of Spank Rock along with several breathtaking remixes for artists like Santogold Santigold and Thom Yorke. Remixing Cee Lo’s (yes THAT Cee Lo) “Hello Miss”, he turns the classy southern disco number into a dirty club gem. It starts out like something straight of Baltimore before getting itself an absolutely dirty bassline with killer leering vocals and the occasional disco string flourish. Quite simply, it is fuck-off awesome.

If you enjoyed playing hours of Tekken, you will enjoy this pointless nostalgia! Remember Nina, Jun, Angel, Devil, and the list goes on, but it can’t end without my favourite; Yoshimitsu! I used to hate it when people (Cameron, Adrian and Matt) would crouch down and then just do the low kick, although it was a very effective way to win! Cassian is one of Bang Gang’s new kids, Modular too. I say kid because I think he’s pretty young, cool stuff though, check out the Myspace.
